İsim Şehir Hayvan uygulamasında sizden belirli bir harfle başlayan isim, şehir, hayvan, bitki ve ülke isimleri bulmanız istenir. Orjinal oyundan farklı olarak bu isimleri bulurken, sadece size verilmiş harfleri kullanabilirsiniz. Bu harflerle kaç farklı kelime oluşturulabileceği oyun ekranında belirtilmektedir. Önemli olan en az kullanılan harflerle ve mümkün olduğunca uzun kelimeler bulmaktır. Kelimelerin puanlaması buna göre yapılmaktadır.
Eğer verilen harfleri kullanarak bir kelime oluşturamıyorsanız Pas düğmesine basabilirsiniz. Pas seçeneği seçildiğinde süreniz 10 saniye kısalır. Eğer 10 saniyeden az zaman kaldıysa, artık Pas seçeneği kullanılamaz.
Her oyun 90 saniye sürmektedir. Amaç bu süre içinde maksimum sayıda kelime bularak en yüksek skoru elde etmektir.
Oyun bittiğinde aldığınız puan sunucuya gönderilir. Bu puanlar Google Play tarafından sağlanan yüksek skorlar servisi kullanılarak sıralanır. Sıralamalar günlük, haftalık ve tüm zamanlar olmak üzere ayrı ayrı tutulur.

Oyunu hem online (çevrim içi) hem de offline (çevrim dışı) olarak oynayabilirsiniz. Online oynayabilmeniz için Google+ hesabınızla oturum açmanız gerekir. Oturum açmadan offline olarak da oynayabilirsiniz. Ancak offline oyun sırasında kazandığınız puanlar sıralamaya katılmaz. Bir başka deyişle offline modda skorunuz sunucuya gönderilemediği için yüksek skor olarak değerlendirilemez.
